Gillian Anderson is joining The Crown

Spot on casting
The Crown already features some of our favourite actors and now, Gillian Anderson is going to play Margaret Thatcher...

Head onto Netflix and you’ll notice a surplus of Gillian Anderson‘s work. Best known for her role as FBI agent Dana Scully in The X-Files, Anderson has come a long way since her ’90s thriller days. She’s swept through the stage, film and TV in roles like DSI Stella Gibson in the BBC drama The Fall and Blanche Dubois in the stage production of A Streetcar Named Desire

Adding to her repetoire, she’s now tipped to play Margaret Thatcher (the former Prime Minister of Britain) in season four of The Netflix drama series, The Crown, which will begin filming in the summer, according to The Guardian. There’s a bit of a wait until then but we’ve already got so much to look forward to. Next season, Helena Bonham Carter will be taking over the role of Princess Margaret and Olivia Colman is coming in to play Queen Elizabeth II in the next two seasons, too. It’s particularly fortuitous timing for Colman to join the show off the back of her awards season winning streak for her role in The Favourite.

Taking on the meatiness of Margaret Thatcher (known as the Iron Lady) is no easy feat but we have no doubt Anderson will sink her teeth into it nicely.

Now, find out which actress will be in a new adaptation of The Witches.
