Dubai is starting the year off on a rather high note: last night, the city set a new Guinness World Record during its New Year’s Eve celebrations.
According to Gulf News, almost 1.5 million people gathered in Downtown Dubai to watch the light show, called #LightUp2018. The lack of fireworks did nothing to dampen the city’s excitement as the breathtaking display of lights lit up the Burj Khalifa. The 10-minute display saw images of the UAE flag, a falcon and of course, Sheikh Zayed, displayed on the side on the world’s tallest building to welcome the Year of Zayed in brilliant style.
The display resulted in the city being awarded a Guinness World Record for the largest laser light and sound show on a single structure.
