Van Cleef & Arpels presents Sol Invictus: a fascinating dance performance that highlights the power of love and community.

In 2020, Van Cleef & Arpels launched a unique initiative dedicated to dance. Titled ‘Dance Reflections,’ the program is committed to preserving choreographic traditions, encouraging contemporary creatives, and exposing the artistic universe of dance to a broad audience. Since its launch, ‘Dance Reflections’ has taken over stages in London, Los Angeles, New York, and Hong Kong, among other destinations. While this program has only been in existence for four short years, the jeweler’s connection to dance can be traced back to the early years of the brand.

Van Cleef & Arpels’ fascination with dance dates back to the 1940s, stemming from co-founder Louis Arpels‘ passion for ballet. This connection inspired the creation of the iconic ballerina brooches, which elegantly captured the fluidity and grace of dancers in jeweled form. The maison’s relationship with dance further flourished through collaborations with renowned choreographers such as George Balanchine, who created the ballet Jewels as a tribute to the brand. Today, Van Cleef & Arpels continues to uphold this rich legacy with ‘Dance Reflections.’

Dance Reflections

This initiative encompasses three key actions: the first aims to support artists and institutions that preserve repertory art while also contributing to contemporary performances. The second action involves hosting an annual choreographic event that showcases both established works and new creations. Lastly, the Maison intends to organize activities designed to promote cultural and dance awareness among diverse audiences, including both professionals and enthusiasts.

This year, Van Cleef & Arpels ‘Dance Reflections’ is bringing a string of enchanting performances to the UAE, beginning with Sol Invictus on September 5 and 6. Next week, Abu Dhabi will be illuminated by the extraordinary fusion of movement and light as Van Cleef & Arpels presents Sol Invictus, the latest masterpiece from renowned choreographer Hervé Koubi. Known for his ability to blend the raw energy of urban dance with the elegance of classical ballet, Koubi brings his celebrated work to the Emirati capital, offering audiences an unforgettable experience.

Dance Reflections

Sol Invictus, which translates to “the unconquered sun,” is a powerful narrative of unity and hope. Seventeen dancers, moving as a tightly-knit collective, embody the essence of solidarity in a world often torn by division. Their movements, a mix of hip-hop’s gravity-defying acrobatics and ballet’s graceful elevation, tell a story of resilience and the unyielding power of love and light, even in the darkest times.

As the dancers spin, leap, and soar through the air, they create a visual spectacle that is as poetic as it is physically thrilling. Koubi’s choreography, deeply rooted in his Algerian heritage and honed by his training in France, brings a unique aesthetic to the stage—one that is both innovative and deeply emotive. With Sol Invictus, he invites the audience to witness a celebration of life, where every movement is a testament to the strength found in community and the enduring power of hope.

By bringing Sol Invictus to the UAE, Van Cleef & Arpels continues its mission to elevate the arts and provide audiences with unforgettable cultural experiences.
