THE LOUVRE PARIS TO CAP VISITORS IN 2023

In case you're planning a visit to the Louvre Museum any time soon, you might want to get there early...

No doubt a sight to see while in Paris, the Louvre Museum has historically been one of the world’s most visited cultural institutions. With millions of people flocking to the city to see the Musée du Louvre, there will now be a limit to visitor numbers by up to a third to ensure a more comfortable visit this year. The decision to limit daily visitor numbers was quietly made in June and has now been officially written into its public guidelines.

The museum released a statement announcing a new measure that will limit the number of visitors to 30,000 per day “in order to facilitate a comfortable visit and ensure optimal working conditions for museum staff.”

“The extremely positive figures for 2022 are tremendously encouraging for all our staff,” said Louvre’s newly appointed president-director, Laurence des Cars. “I hope that visitors enjoy spending time at the Musee du Louvre, particularly those discovering the museum for the first time, who represent 60 per cent of them. We are working ever harder to improve visiting conditions and to continue to offer a programme of great quality and a unique array of live performances resonating with what’s on at the museum.”

With the change officially in effect, 2023 is expected to see 9.3 million visitors visit the Louvre.
