This week, #BuroSpotlights Egyptian illustrator and Arabic lettering artist Waleed Abodouh.
Waleed Abodouh is a master at turning words into art — a gifted illustrator and Arabic lettering artist whose work transforms simple letters into unforgettable visual experiences. Born and raised in Saudi Arabia but now based in Egypt, Waleed has spent over eight years honing his craft, blending illustration and Arabic typography to create stunning brand identities that stick with you long after you’ve seen them.
With a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design from Egypt’s Faculty of Applied Arts, Waleed merges his deep cultural roots with a modern design sensibility. His passion lies in the dynamic interplay between images and script, making each project a unique storytelling moment where text is turned into art.
Abodouh’s unique illustrated lettering finds itself intertwined with illustrated imagery, taking the form of stickers, designs on tote bags, wall hangings, and more. Often imagined in bright colorways, his work merges art and calligraphy.
In a region where branding often walks a fine line between old and new, Waleed Abodouh’s work stands out for its ability to bridge worlds — inviting audiences to see Arabic typography not just as language, but as living, breathing art. Whether shaping a brand’s visual identity or illustrating phrases with striking flair, he’s proving that letters can do a lot more than just speak; they can inspire.
