Hermès is planning to expand its empire with the launch of cosmetics and skincare next year, it has confirmed to Business of Fashion.
The brand already offers up a selection of fine fragrances, as well as body products, however from 2020, it will follow in the footsteps of cohorts Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Dior and offer a wider variety of beauty products to consumers.
Speaking to BoF, the brand’s CEO Axel Dumas, said, “It’s quite exciting; It’s a new activity with all the risks that involves, so we will deploy it progressively, initially in our own stores mainly, in a limited distribution so we can learn.” The collections will be ideated in-house however manufacturing will be outsourced to external suppliers in France and Italy.
And perhaps most excitingly, Dumas also confirmed the brand would use plastic-free packaging to house the products.
“We are trying to do it humbly and cautiously, because it’s a big market that’s already full of strong players, and therefore we have to find our place in it,” says Dumas.
We’re already looking forward to seeing what they come up with.
