Chanel is releasing three new unisex fragrances for the first time

Les Eaux des Chanel
For the first time ever, Chanel has released a trio of unisex scents...

Chanel is doing a lot of things it doesn’t normally do this year. For example, across the weekend the brand publicised its earnings for the first time in its 108-year history, and now, its announced the release of a range of unisex fragrances — which the house has never previously released.

Known for its iconic female perfumes, the brand’s in-house perfumer Olivier Polge decided to expand the range with three new scents called Les Eaux des Chanel. Not made for any one gender specifically, the range is inspired by components found within colognes and was named after a key destination in Coco Chanel‘s life (which are also currently being explored in a three-part video series by the brand). As a result, the three fragrances are called Deauville (a super fresh scent), Biarritz (the most masculine scent) and Venise (the most feminine scent).

Polge admits that the scents are different from what the brand’s perfume enthusiasts have known of their work previously, telling Elle UK, “We often have at Chanel scents that are quite rich. We are often working with a lot of flowers. But there is something also always about freshness at Chanel. When we speak about No. 5, we speak about flowers and aldehydes. Many of our fragrances, like No. 19, is very green. But I felt there was room for these types of scents.”

Les Eaux des Chanel will be released this month.
