Red carpets provide a distinct opportunity for celebrities to flaunt their sartorial prowess. From risqué outfits and sculptural silhouettes to spectacular gowns affixed with dramatic trains, nothing is, or should we say errr…was off limits until the Cannes Film Festival issued a new set of rules for attendees.
The Cannes Film Festival remains one of the major highlights on the fashion calendar, with celebrities bringing their sartorial best to the red carpet. After years of stretching and bending the dress code rules with ensembles that leave little to the imagination, the festival management has officially had enough. Ahead of the 2025 edition, the Cannes Film Festival has officially banned nudity on the red carpet.
“For decency reasons, nudity is prohibited on the red carpet, as well as in any other areas of the festival,” the statement on the website reads.
That’s not all; the organizers have also issued a ban on voluminous outfits that restrain swift movement on the red carpet or inside screening venues.
“Voluminous outfits, in particular those with a large train, that hinder the proper flow of traffic of guests and complicate seating in the theater, are not permitted. The festival welcoming teams will be obligated to prohibit red carpet access to anyone not respecting these rules,” the statement read.
With the notice issued just days before the beginning of the festival, we can’t help but wonder how many attendees had to make last-minute changes to their outfits.
