Riyadh is fast becoming a global hub for fashion, creativity, and innovation. With the Saudi fashion industry gaining momentum and local talent making a mark internationally, the Kingdom is setting the stage for a new chapter in luxury and design education. Enter Istituto Marangoni, one of the world’s most prestigious fashion and design schools, which is set to open its Riyadh campus in August 2025.

Stefania Valenti, Managing Director, Istituto Marangoni, commented on the launch of the new campus, “Over the past few years, the Saudi fashion industry has seen remarkable growth. The emergence of Saudi designers showcasing collections internationally and the increased focus on fashion events in the Kingdom have been key indicators of this transformation. When we began analyzing the market in collaboration with the Fashion Commission, we recognized a strong demand—not just for creative education but for structured training in fashion management, communication, retail, and product development.”
Backed by the Fashion Commission and the Ministry of Culture, this new Higher Training Institute will cater to the evolving needs of the Saudi fashion market, offering specialized programs. Located at King Abdullah Financial District’s (KAFD) Riyadh Creative District (RCD)—an emerging epicenter for the creative industries—the campus will offer undergraduate and professional training courses designed to equip students with the skills to compete on bothregional and international levels.
Valenti further added. “We also conducted a series of events and focus groups in Riyadh, engaging directly with students and aspiring designers. The response was overwhelming. Young creatives in Saudi Arabia are eager for high-level education that allows them to develop their craft and gain international exposure. That’s when we knew Riyadh was the right place.”
Istituto Marangoni’s Riyadh campus will offer six undergraduate Advanced Training Diploma courses, each designed to meet industry demands:
- Fashion Design & Accessories
- Fashion Communication & Image
- Fashion Management
- Digital Communication & Media
- Fashion Product
- Fragrances & Cosmetics Management
“We want to prepare students for the full lifecycle of the industry—from designing collections to understanding merchandising, retail, branding, and digital communication. In addition to undergraduate programs, we will offer upskilling and reskilling courses for industry professionals in both full-time and part-time formats. Our faculty will consist of a mix of local and international experts, ensuring students receive a truly global education with regional relevance,” Valenti continued.

Istituto Marangoni is deeply invested in supporting and empowering Saudi talent. To that end, the institute has collaborated with the Fashion Commission to offer 50 scholarships to Saudi students enrolling in its three-year diploma programs.
Speaking about being in alignment with Saudi Vision 2030, Valenti said, “The Saudi government has been clear about its commitment to growing the creative economy. The Fashion Commission and Saudi Vision 2030 emphasize the importance of establishing a fashion ecosystem that supports local designers, builds infrastructure, and attracts global investment.
At Istituto Marangoni, we see ourselves as active contributors to this mission. Our goal is not just to educate students but to help build a sustainable fashion industry in Saudi Arabia. That means developing a local talent pool that can lead the industry, whether as designers, entrepreneurs, or managers in luxury fashion.”

Beyond education, Istituto will also provide students with career opportunities. With an extensive network of luxury brands, industry leaders, and global campuses, students will have access to internships, mentorship programs, and career placements. This is key to ensuring that graduates don’t just receive a diploma but are equipped with real-world experience.
When asked about incorporating local cultural elements and crafts into the curriculum, Valenti said, “Local craftsmanship and heritage play a significant role in Saudi fashion, and it’s essential to integrate these elements into our curriculum. Just as we’ve done in other locations like Mumbai and Shanghai, we will tailor 10-15% of our curriculum in Riyadh to focus on local fashion needs.
Discussing her advice for emerging Saudi talent, Valenti said, “Take advantage of this opportunity. The fashion industry is rapidly evolving, and Saudi Arabia is at the forefront of this transformation. This is the time to invest in your future, build your skills, and become part of the next generation of fashion leaders.”
