As the grand finale of awards season, the Academy Awards, a.k.a. the Oscars, are the night when Hollywood’s elite go all in, delivering the most spectacular fashion moments of the year. This year, Hollywood’s finest pulled out all the sartorial stops, delivering looks that ranged from timeless elegance to full-throttle drama. Vintage gems, crystal-encrusted couture, and bold, unexpected silhouettes turned the Dolby Theatre into a high-fashion spectacle. Well, you wouldn’t expect anything less from Hollywood’s biggest night out, would you?
If Glinda the Good Witch had a couture moment, this would be it. Ariana Grande, nominated for Best Supporting Actress for Wicked, delivered her most jaw-dropping red carpet look yet at the 2025 Oscars: a custom Schiaparelli gown with over 190,000 crystals. The dramatic silhouette featured a sculpted peplum bodice and layers of airy tulle, making her look like she floated straight onto the carpet.

Daniel Roseberry, the genius behind Schiaparelli, took inspiration from an archival Alberto Giacometti lamp (yes, really), resulting in a piece that felt both classic and avant-garde. Grande has been in her Glinda-pink era all season, but this was the ultimate crescendo.
While Grande dazzled on the 2025 Oscars red carpet, Selena Gomez had her own scintillating moment. Gomez has spent this awards season serving up one Old Hollywood-inspired outfit after another, and the Oscars were no exception. This time, she went full red-carpet royalty in a custom Ralph Lauren gown adorned with over 16,000 hand-applied glass droplets and Rosemont crystals.

The off-the-shoulder silhouette felt classic, but the details gave it a fresh spin. Airbrushed ombré effects on the glass embellishments added depth, while her Bvlgari diamonds (including a 10-carat pear-cut pendant) brought just the right amount of extra sparkle. Gomez and Ralph Lauren have proven to be a match made in fashion heaven, and tonight, they delivered yet another knockout.
Nothing says confidence like showing up in an archival masterpiece. This year, vintage had a major moment, with stars proving that fashion’s past can go hand-in-hand with its present.

Elle Fanning understood the vintage fashion assignment. Wearing Sarah Burton’s first custom haute couture design for Givenchy, she paid homage to the brand’s heritage while giving us a sneak peek at Burton’s new direction. The gown, inspired by Hubert de Givenchy’s 1952 debut collection, featured intricate floral French lace and a plunging sweetheart neckline cinched at the waist with a dramatic black bow. She kept the accessories timeless, opting for a Cartier choker and bracelet, proving that less is sometimes more.

And she wasn’t alone—Lily-Rose Depp turned heads in a reworked 1995 Chanel, while Doja Cat made a statement in a 1950s Balmain creation. Further, Best Actress nominee Mikey Madison opted for a Dior couture look desgned by Monsieur Dior himself for the Bal à Paris Spring/Summer 1956 collection.

While women stole the spotlight with their dazzling gowns, the men at the 2025 Oscars didn’t fade into the background. Sure, there were classic tuxedos, but there was also personality—Timothée Chalamet in banana-yellow Givenchy, Andrew Garfield in rich chocolate tailoring, and a general embrace of brooches, unusual silhouettes, and unexpected color palettes.
