Marking the festivities surrounding the retrospective, 'Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty' (currently showcased at the Met Costume Institute in New York until July 16), the exhibition is embarking on a journey to various Chloé boutiques, including the one at Dubai Mall.

Wondering what’s on display?

Lagerfeld’s enduring connection with Chloé spans an impressive four decades. Initially brought on board by the Maison’s founder, Gaby Aghion, in 1963, Lagerfeld’s tenure extended for two decades, during which he ascended to the creative helm. Leveraging his couture expertise, he reimagined garments with a newfound lightness in both fabric and spirit. Upon his return as Creative Director from 1992 to 1997, Lagerfeld continued to cultivate the unrestrained femininity he had originally helped define.

The current exhibition showcases iconic Chloé dresses worn by Gabriela Hearst, Maude Apatow, Olivia Wilde, and Vanessa Kirby—an homage to Lagerfeld’s enduring Chloé legacy at the 2023 Met Gala.

Olivia Wilde graced the scene in a stunning deadstock ivory silk cady evening gown. This full-length ensemble features a cut-out back adorned with a short capelet, complemented by hand-embroidered cuff details. The pièce de résistance lies in the intricate hand embroidery using golden strass and tubular beads, cleverly forming a trompe l’oeil image of a violin down the center. A modern reinterpretation of the iconic ‘Angkor’ dress from Karl Lagerfeld’s Chloé Spring-Summer 1983 collection, this look seamlessly blends timeless elegance with contemporary flair.

Vanessa Kirby graced the spotlight in the legendary ‘Brise’ dress, a creation by Karl Lagerfeld for the Maison’s Autumn-Winter 1983-84 collection. This evening dress exudes a touch of military inspiration from the front, showcasing a double row of sparkling buttons on midnight blue fabric. Meanwhile, the back reveals a captivating trompe l’oeil showerhead motif, a masterfully hand-embroidered detail crafted by the skilled artisans at Chaste.

Maude Apatow captivates in a sleek black column dress crafted from deadstock silk crepe, boasting waist cutouts and exquisite hand embroideries. The faceted mirror and silver tubular beads come together to form a striking arrow motif, presenting a modern reinterpretation of an iconic dress conceived by Karl Lagerfeld for the Chloé Autumn-Winter 1983-84 collection. This masterpiece was brought to life through a collaborative effort with the skilled artisans at Maison Hurel, who had originally contributed to the creation of the timeless design. Accompanying the ensemble is a chic clutch crafted from black suede, featuring a chain strap, metallic silver hardware, and arrow motif embroideries in strass beads—an ode to the inspiration drawn from the iconic dress.
