Twice a year, we look forward to a mammoth month of fashion extravaganza as Fashion Months usually kick off in February and September. This year however, things are looking a little different as the fashion calendar has adopted some new terms such as ‘phygital’ and ‘social-distancing’.
Hero names including Marc Jacobs and Ralph Lauren were notably absent from the schedule but there was still plenty to see as brands showcased their latest Spring/Summer ’21 collections.
We’ve rounded up four of our favourite trends from New York Fashion Week…
FLORALS FOR SPRING? GROUNDBREAKING.
Florals have always been on trend for Spring, and for ’21, they’ve been reimagined in different colours and sizes. At Rodarte, florals were beautifully fashioned into symmetrical patterns; some that looked like 3D. At Tom Ford, florals were paired with the brand’s signature animal print whilst at Christian Siriano, florals were appliquéd on.
TALK ABOUT IT
A plethora of designers, such as designer Christian Siriano and Collina Strada, have used their platform and made a direct plea for citizens to ‘VOTE’ as a presidential election is just weeks away.
STATEMENT SLEEVES
Who doesn’t love a statement sleeve? Brands have exaggerated the sleeve for Spring/Summer ’21 (a much needed revamp for the season) and Zimmermann is delivering with beautiful sleeves complete in the brand’s signature bohemian aesthetic.
MASK IT UP
Everywhere we looked during the first digital New York Fashion Week, all we saw were face masks, each one more stylish than the last. Not that we’re surprised at all, but designers have taken the protective items to a whole new level designing them with gemstones, bows, flowers, and chain accessories.
