Fashion Month is mere weeks away from beginning for the new season and whilst hype around New York, London, Milan and Paris’ offering has already begun, a new fashion week has popped up in America.
In February, LA will be home to the very first Vegan Fashion Week. Set to take place over four days at the California Market Centre, the event will showcase a range of pieces made without the use of animal products. It will also be home to a pop-up shop where visitors can purchase vegan fashion items, as well as panels to help educate and inform consumers and industry professionals on the relationship between fashion and animal rights as well as technology and circularity.
Emmannuelle Rienda, the Founder of VFW, told VegNews, “I want to ignite conversations and debates within the industry by educating, elevating, and drawing connections between our most important values: our respect for human life, animal rights and the environment.”
It’s fitting that the event will be held in LA, given that last year the city was the first globally to ban the sale of fur clothing and accessories. The event is the next step in fashion’s increasingly conscious approach to fashion following London Fashion Week’s fur-free display for S/S ’19.
