Men’s Paris Fashion Week officially ended on Sunday but there was one more coveted label that debuted its menswear collection on the last day of the calendar.
Although not in Paris, Simon Porte Jacquemus took his eponymous label’s new runway show to the blue waters of Marseille and delivered a Spring/Summer ’19 collection that was as bright as it was bold.
First announcing that he’s branching out into menswear via Instagram in February, the French fashion designer gave us a sneak peek of what to expect with a cream-meets-camel coloured sweatshirt, a hue which was repeated throughout the collection.
Packed with pieces that gave off an ’80s feel, the collection included a series of striped polos, relaxed knitwear, chunky sweaters, double pocket shorts, loose blazers and baggy pants.
Speaking of the collection to WWD, Jacquemus explained: “I grew up here, right behind those big limestone rocks. I grew up here, between the olive trees and the red tomato fields. I grew up here, with those men in blue tracksuits, matching blue bags and hats, all light blue. I grew up here, with those Saturday night white shirts clean and pressed, that gives you a nice tan in summer. I grew up here, barefoot, bare-chest[ed], strong perfume. I grew up here, in the Mediterranean.”
