WE JUST TRIED LOUIS VUITTON’S $160 LIPSTICK AND $250 EYESHADOW PALETTE – BEAUTY OR BOUGIE?

When a fashion house known for luxury trunks and runway chic decides to drop a makeup line, you know things are about to get bougie. Meet: La Beauté Louis Vuitton, the beauty world’s new diva on the block. Spearheaded by the legendary Pat McGrath, this collection doesn’t whisper “beauty”, it sings haute couture glam. Think: lipsticks, lip balms, and quad eyeshadow palettes designed as ** objets d’art** you might want to display, not hide in the back of your drawer. The kind of packaging that feels less like your average lipstick tube and more like a mini leather-good accessory.

And oh, the prices are doing their own runway walk: lipsticks and balms around $160 each, eyeshadow quads at about $250. These aren’t your drugstore staples, they’re luxury statements. (But hey, refills exist, so you don’t have to keep paying full price if you fall in love). According to LV, you’re not just buying color, you’re buying craftsmanship, legacy, and a sensory experience. Think curated by runway-level pros, infused with skincare-type ingredients, and designed to last, both in formula and aesthetic.

So, I got my hands on a few of these products; you invited me in, beauty gossip style—and here’s the tea, shade by shade.

THE REVIEW.

Unboxing: The Wooden LV Box

Before I even cracked open the product, the wooden LV box was giving “deluxe treasure chest” energy. It’s heavy, sturdy, and opens with a satisfying click, almost like you’re unlocking a mini trunk. The feel and aesthetic nod clearly to LV’s tradition in craftsmanship and their original trunk-making heritage. If you placed that box on a vanity, no one would bat an eye if you used it to store jewelry, USB cables, or secret chocolate stashes, it’s that elegant.

1) Louis Vuitton Baume (the most expensive lip balm I’ve ever tried)

  • Price: retail ≈ $160.
  • Refill option: available—so if you commit, you’re not doubling down on the price forever.

My Feedback:
This is officially the most expensive lip balm in my collection. But, it delivers in the sense that it feels plush, hydrating, and has a tinted glow rather than a heavy coat. It builds nicely, hydrates without feeling sticky, and leaves your lips looking supple and fresh. Given the cost, I’d expect near lip-care performance rather than just a token color plus packaging flex, and it somewhat hits that expectation. Whether it’s worth $160 is up to the indulgence budget: if you buy it for the experience, packaging, and hydrating feel, it gives, but it’s definitely a splurge-lip-care tier.

Verdict: If you want a treat-yourself balm and you already own a Speedy, this is a vibe. If you’re looking for practical, budget-friendly hydration, drugstore and niche brands will do a similar job at a fraction of the price.

2) Louis Vuitton Ombres “150 Beige Memento” (Earthy + Gold Heaven)

  • Price: ≈ $250 per quad.
  • Refill available as well.

My Feedback:
This quad is everything you said: earthy tones + gold shimmer = autumn leaves glow. The formula is silky, pigmented, blendable, and ingredients like plant-derived squalane and flower extracts make it gentler on the lids. It genuinely takes the guesswork out of picking shades to work together—one swipe and the shades just flow into a cohesive eye look. If you’re the kind of person who loves warm neutrals with a golden twist, you’ll be reaching for this one often. The only hiccup: the magnetized pans are adorable but you need a bit of finesse to swap refills; worth it for the sustainability and less waste, but just prepare for some tedious satisfying click-in action.

Verdict: High cost, but if you value curated pigment, blendability, and the earthy-gold aesthetic, it’s a fantastic artistic investment. If you’re after budget-friendly neutrals, there are cheaper quads, but they won’t feel this luxe.

3) Louis Vuitton Rouge Matte 203 Rose Odyssée

  • Price: assuming similar pricing to full lipsticks, around $160.

My Feedback:
This one is a standout: a rosy sienna with enough depth to pop on the lips, yet muted enough to serve as an everyday shade. It leans matte, but comfortably matte, not drying. Given its saturation and wear time, I’d say it justifies the price if you’re using it often or you love that curated French-girl chic energy. It feels like an accessory, as you said—the kind that pulls your look together rather than screaming “I AM LIPSTICK.”

Verdict: If you’re a lipstick wearer, this could become a new staple. If you rarely wear bold tones, it may feel expensive for occasional use, though you get refills, so long-term, it’s not a total heartbreak.

4) Monogram Rouge (muted warm red, neutral vibes)

  • Likely around the same $160 range.

My Feedback:
This is the most neutral of the reds in the lineup. It’s warm enough to flatter many skin tones but remains subtle and wearable. The pigment payoff is strong, yet it doesn’t overpower your look. It wears long but not to the extent of lip tattoo longevity, so you’ll need touch-ups after meals. If you like making a statement that’s understated, this one is a chic performer. If you’re not a red-lip person, probably not the one to splurge on.

Verdict: A strong choice for everyday glam and slightly elevated makeup without being dramatic. Probably the most practical use of the high-end lipstick tier in the lineup.

If you treat beauty as an art and a luxury experience, and if the packaging, aesthetic, and formula align with your beauty priorities and budget, La Beauté by Louis Vuitton can deliver an elevated, sensory, curated experience. However, you’re definitely paying a premium, and sometimes that premium is as much about heritage and desire as it is about actual formula performance. Whether that’s silly or sensational? That’s up to you (and your vanity drawer).
