In 2018, just a few years after its initial release, the calibre 1280 took over from the calibre 1242. This new masterpiece, highlighted by five groundbreaking patents, showcases the relentless creativity of Hublot’s engineers. The 1280 retains the robust, reliable, and precise qualities of its predecessor, featuring a 72-hour power reserve and a signature dark grey finish, all backed by a three-year warranty.
Yet, the Unico calibre 1280 embodies a fresh perspective. It reflects the evolving needs and aspirations of both customers and watchmakers, emphasizing simplicity without compromising performance. The redesigned calibre 1280 is slimmer, with a thickness reduced from 8.05 mm to 6.75 mm, thanks to meticulous engineering.
The new Unico introduces a range of technical advancements:
- Gentler Winding: Replacing the traditional ratchet wheel, Hublot’s new system uses a pair of unidirectional wheels, eliminating noise and friction, and enhancing efficiency and reliability during servicing.
- Flawless Chronograph Display: The Unico’s innovative clutch mechanism eradicates traditional issues like hand jump and quivering, with a design that makes the unique profile of its wheels visible, satisfying collectors and enhancing functionality.
- Enhanced Performance: The improved architecture features a ceramic ball bearing for stable and accurate friction control, and an adjustable friction torque screw, minimizing energy consumption and optimizing accuracy.
- Greater Accuracy: A patented fine-tuning system ensures precise adjustment of the balance-spring length, making the Unico calibre easier to fine-tune and more accurate.
- Exceptional Shock Resistance: A patented mechanism provides superior friction torque to maintain time accuracy even under high impact, showcasing Hublot’s commitment to durability.
Celebrating its innovations, Hublot introduces five new creations at the 2024 Watches and Wonders in Geneva:
