Jeddah served up a bold twist for the Next Gen ATP Finals media day backdrop: a tennis court made entirely of rugs! Featuring 37 carpets sourced globally, this one-of-a-kind court was as imaginative as it was symbolic, blending the sport’s global appeal with Saudi Arabia’s hospitality traditions.
Designed by Shahad of Blank Studio, the carpet court told a story of Jeddah’s rich diversity. “Carpets are an element of hospitality here, and this event unites players from all over the world, so a court of global carpets felt natural,” said Shahad.
Beyond the carpets, the setup included a handmade net crafted from palm leaves and tennis balls overstitched with colorful fabrics—an ode to Saudi craftsmanship. “We aimed to keep it organic while honoring the exact proportions of a real tennis court,” Shahad added.
Top seeds Arthur Fils and Alex Michelsen joined six other rising stars for the official photo at the Royal Overlook Building on Jeddah’s Corniche. After the shoot, players soaked up the Saudi vibes with a boat ride, a dip in the Red Sea, and dinner by the water.
The Next Gen ATP Finals presented by PIF kicks off on December 18 at King Abdullah Sports City, promising a showcase of the world’s best under-20 talent in the heart of Jeddah’s cultural tapestry.”
