How does art influence your designs? Are there particular artistic movements or cultural elements that inspire your creations?
Art has always played a significant role in influencing my designs. Providing innovative designs requires staying updated on trends in events, fashion, and lifestyle, which is crucial to offering cutting-edge products. I’ve always been passionate about art, and this passion is reflected in my work. Various artistic movements and cultural elements inspire and directly influence my creations. In today’s world, luxury has become more discreet compared to the past. Our products embrace this trend by offering creations that remain intimate, embodying a sense of understated elegance and sophistication. By integrating the subtle nuances of contemporary art and cultural trends, I aim to create designs that resonate with modern sensibilities while maintaining a timeless appeal.
What are some of the challenges you face in maintaining the high standards of craftsmanship and innovation that define S by Salanitro? On the flip side, what are the most rewarding aspects of your work?
One of the main challenges we face in maintaining the high standards of craftsmanship and innovation that define our brand lies in finding the right partners. While we excel in stone setting, finishes, and working with metal parts in-house, sourcing partners who can meet our exacting standards can be demanding. For instance, when creating our fans, we managed the metal parts and stone setting internally but had to conduct extensive research to find partners capable of reproducing our intricate designs on both sides of the canvas. Additionally, collaborating with a master fan maker for the
assembly and its complexities presented another layer of challenge. On the flip side, the most rewarding aspect of my work is witnessing the dedication and skill of everyone involved in the process. Despite the difficulties, the collective effort and commitment ensure that we always produce exceptional products. This relentless pursuit of excellence and the resulting masterpieces make all the challenges
worthwhile.
What can we expect next from S by Salanitro? Are there upcoming projects or collaborations that you’re particularly excited about?
For now, we can’t reveal too much, but there is something very exciting coming for the end of the year. We are also working on surprising collaboration projects that will truly reflect the universe of both brands. There are many beautiful things on the horizon, but most importantly, as always with our brand, there will be surprising and magnificent creations. We look forward to presenting them to you.
As the founder, what legacy do you hope S by Salanitro will leave in the world of high-end jewellery, interior design, and art?
All is about mysterious and enigmatic interior artworks (a stark contrast to the commonplace). Until now, most jewellery and watches have been designed to be showcased. What excites me is the idea of creating objects for the interior, objects that we share in intimacy. We are entirely in line with this new trend of “secret luxury”: mysterious objects for people who already have everything but prefer not to show it.
Additionally, we have developed a line of jewelled light switches, designed for the home. We work directly with clients to create custom switches that integrate perfectly with the room’s design. Luxury is found in the details, as with our switches.
The inaugural jewelry line, Bijoux, has been described as a showcase of Pierre Salanitro’s creativity. Can you share some insights into the design philosophy and techniques used in this collection?
As with all our products, we strive to stand out and offer extraordinary things. When we launched our mask line, we received immense success and many comments suggesting that the mask features would translate well into jewellery. We loved the idea and the challenge. We spent a year creating jewellery with a strong image and an important message to offer spectacular pieces. Today, we are proud to have innovated once again. Our clients love our creations.
Your Maison is known for exceptional objects crafted by skilled artisans. Could you elaborate on the process of bringing these objects to life, especially the role of gem setters, engravers, and jewelry-artisans?
I am fortunate to be surrounded by the best experts in the world. When I have a new idea, we start to work together with my creative director. Once a design is selected, my gemmologist, my team of jewellers, my stone-setting director, and my product development team bring their expertise to enhance our designer’s creations. For example, for our masks, our team of jewellers spends a significant amount of time constructing the structure and creating perfect symmetry. Once the structure is created, the stone setters adorn the mask with stones. To elevate the creations, they also integrate decor between the stones. All these steps are complex and take several weeks, if not months. Without these talents, we could not produce objects of such high quality.
