Every now and then, we find ourselves pondering: what does the future of technology hold? What began with mammoth computers that once chained us to our desks, evolved into laptops and smartphones that are, well, chained to us. But what comes next? After much debate, we can’t help but conclude that augmented reality (AR) will make a huge impact on tech in the near future. Whether it is with gadgets like Apple‘s ‘Vision Pro’ or Sightful‘s latest ‘Spacetop ‘G1’ screen-free laptop, AR will play a significant role when it comes to our day-to-day devices.
Imagine carrying your “laptop” around, but it is essentially just a keyboard and AR glasses. Sightful, a tech startup, has made an intriguing entry into the world of “spatial computing” with the launch of ‘Spacetop G1,’ a unique screenless laptop. While spatial computing has traditionally been associated with Apple’s ‘Vision Pro’ headset, Sightful’s approach sets it apart by offering a screenless computing experience paired with AR glasses custom-made by Xreal.
The ‘Spacetop G1,’ designed to address the clunkiness of traditional headsets like the ‘Vision Pro,’ promises a liberating experience with its AR glasses and a virtual 100-inch display. CEO Tamir Berliner emphasizes that the aim is to free people from the confines of traditional screens and empower them to work from anywhere.
Following an invite-only early access program, user feedback was pivotal in refining the Spacetop’s hardware and software. The final product boasts an impressive 8-hour battery life and a 70% faster processing chip. Priced at $1,900, eager customers can reserve their ‘Spacetop G1’ on Sightful’s website, with the first batch expected to ship in October 2024.
