For many of us around the world, we’re trying to adapt to this new normal. Whether it’s working from home, taking e-learning courses or attending Zoom events, this is what it has come to whilst we all practice social distancing. For students however, things have changed drastically as they’ve taken their courses online and will yet to experience a proper graduation ceremony or even, prom.
Thankfully, YouTube is pumping up its streaming platform by giving the graduating class of 2020 a chance to have a virtual ceremony — and what’s even better, headlined by some of the most prominent figures from around the world.
YouTube’s “Dear Class of 2020” original special will feature a video graduation ceremony, including commencement addresses delivered by President Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama. They will each deliver individual commencement speeches, and then a joint message to graduates.
And whilst that’s pretty awe-inspiring, YouTube have also gathered several other commencement speakers including BTS, Lady Gaga, former Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates, Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, and Malala Yousafzai.
It doesn’t just stop there. Because the future generation truly deserve to be celebrated, “Dear Class of 2020” will also feature a slew of special appearances by celebrities and musicians including Alicia Keys, Kelly Rowland, Kerry Washington, Chloe x Halle, Zendaya, and YouTube creators Jackie Aina, AsapSCIENCE, Dude Perfect, Mr. Kate, and The Try Guys.
The virtual commencement celebration honouring high school and college seniors will be a multi-hour livestream event and will premiere on YouTube on June 6.
