If you lived through the early 2000s, chances are the Chloé ‘Paddington’ bag once occupied prime real estate on your wishlist or your shoulder. Launched in 2005 with what can be referred to as a fashion earthquake, it was slouchy, slightly impractical, and padlocked. And we loved it. Fast-forward two decades, and the ‘Paddington’ has strutted back into the spotlight, freshly reissued for Fall/Winter 2025 under the sharp eye of creative director Chemena Kamali. Gen Zs are Googling it, TikTok algorithms are dominated by it, and vintage versions are being snapped up.
First introduced during Chloé’s Spring/Summer 2005 show, the original ‘Paddington’ was a fashion fever dream made real by then-creative director Phoebe Philo. With its curved silhouette, equestrian-inspired straps, and that famously chunky padlock, it was logoless, yet instantly recognizable. Celebs like Sienna Miller, Lindsay Lohan, and Kate Bosworthwere rarely seen without it. It sold out before hitting the shelves.
Though it dipped into obscurity post-2010s (with a brief birthday cameo in 2013), the ‘Paddington’ recently started gaining traction on resale platforms. RealReal saw a 129% spike in 2024, and LTK reported a jaw-dropping 3,000% surge in searches. The timing’s not a coincidence. Kamali’s Autumn/Winter 2024 debut signaled a return to boho—Chloé’s original language—and her 2025 show sealed the deal: the ‘Paddington’ is back, and it is lighter, smarter, and somehow even cooler.
The new ‘Paddington’ keeps the OG’s DNA intact—grained leather, oversized padlock, buckled sides—but sheds some of its weight (our shoulders thank you). It also gets functional tweaks: a refined shape, single-zip opening, and comfier shoulder drop. Expect it in wearable shades like black, cream, brown, and beige. And yes, the padlock still works.
