MISS DIOR MADE A COMEBACK

Like always, Dior kicked off yet another highly-anticipated season of Paris Fashion Week. For Dior Fall/Winter 2024, Maria Grazia Chiuri took us back to the late 1960s. Inspired by the birth of the iconic ‘Miss Dior’ line in 1967, the collection focused on wearability and adaptability. The collection that paid homage to the bygone era featured plush materials like double cashmere and gabardine. Additionally, the Dior Fall/Winter 2024 collection celebrated modern femininity, its strength, and its versatility.

Fluid silhouettes dominated the Dior Fall/Winter 2024 collection. Pants, dresses, skirts, and coats were all designed to accentuate the feminine form instead of restricting it. The iconic ‘Miss Dior’ logo took was plastered in bold lettering across coats, skirts, and dresses in blues, reds, and browns. As has been the case under Chiuri’s reign at Dior, the Maison continued its tradition of artistic collaboration. The Dior Fall/Winter 2024 show unfolded against a stunning backdrop created by Indian artist Shakuntala Kulkarni

SAINT LAURENT BARED IT ALL

As always, Saint Laurent staged its Fall/Winter 2024 show against the shimmering Eiffel Tower. The collection that featured a majority of sheer looks crafted from delicate hosiery was a daring exploration of fragility and empowerment. Anthony Vaccarello defied convention, crafting sultry ensembles that celebrated the ethos of Saint Laurent.

Despite the nightmare it posed for the atelier, the ethereal stocking outfits in powdery hues were sent down the runway with complementing platforms and slingbacks. Models strutted with confidence, their heads sheathed in stocking caps and wrists adorned with chunky transparent bangles, illustrating Vaccarello’s interpretation of femininity. The collection juxtaposed the fragile with the bold, featuring sleek silk dresses alongside voluminous furry coats made of ultralight feathers. With nods to Saint Laurent’s legacy of transgression and liberation, the show highlighted Vaccarello’s commitment to pushing boundaries while staying true to Maison’s aesthetic.

THE CHLOÉ WOMAN IS BACK

Chemena Kamali‘s debut for Chloé was easily one of the most awaited shows of Paris Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2024, and it did not disappoint. Kamali drew inspiration from the brand’s 70s archives, reviving Karl Lagerfeld’s vision for Chloé. Effortless silhouettes, ruffles, lightweight sheer fabrics, micro shorts, fringing, knee-high boots, and a range of covetable accessories evoked a retro Boho-Chic vibe.

Kamali’s debut collection for Chloé celebrated intuition, freedom, and instinctive female energy. In tribute to the founder Gaby Aghion’s creative vision, the collection is an ode to feminine power and freedom. It was a tribute to Chloé’s enduring legacy and its ability to empower women to be daring and feel free.

SCHIAPARELLI EMBRACED THE EVERYDAY

At Paris Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2024, the Schiaparelli woman evolved beyond couture into the world of ready-to-wear. The collection embodied the essence of Schiaparelli, delivering everyday staples with a signature twist. From blazer variations to crisp slacks and dramatic evening wear, each piece was designed to tickle, thrill, and even shock both the wearer and viewer alike. Founder Elsa Schiaparelli‘s iconic motifs were intertwined with modern Creative Director Daniel Roseberry‘s American heritage, resulting in a wardrobe with innovation and sophistication. The collection’s accessories stole the spotlight, with pieces like the ‘Face’ bag and ‘Schiap’ bag. Crafted with the ambition of becoming “future vintage,” these accessories embodied the Maison’s commitment to quality.

LOEWE MADE US LOOK TWICE

At Paris Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2024, Loewe‘s collection was an ode to the works of American painter Albert York. Each Loewe piece invited closer inspection, with details reminiscent of York’s lush greenery-infused artworks. Wooden carvings adorned coat collars, while floral and animal motifs were crafted using intricate beaded embroidery. Miniature ornamentation adorned not only clothing but also accessories like biker boots and ‘Squeeze’ bags. While florals were central to the collection, dog prints, fluffy foam effects, and an asparagus bundle bag added a sense of whimsy to the runway. With each piece, Loewe demonstrated the power of detail and artistry in fashion, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.

HERMÈS MADE IT RAIN

The Hermès Fall/Winter 2024 collection was a celebration of the unparalleled craftsmanship and heritage that the French Maison is known for. Against the backdrop of an urban rainy day, drops of water cascading down the catwalk set the scene for Creative Director Nadège Vanhee-Cybulski‘s minimalist yet elegant collection. Monochromatic ensembles in rich burgundy and reddish hues transitioned into a palette of browns, beiges, and pastel yellows before culminating in striking all-black looks. Leather, a signature of Hermès, took center stage, intermingling with knits and fur across jackets, coats, sweaters, pants, and skirts. The iconic ‘Kelly’ and ‘Birkin’ bags, alongside belts and chunky rings, adorned the models, epitomizing the Hermès woman’s timeless elegance and readiness for any occasion.

SEÁN MCGIRR MADE HIS ALEXANDER MCQUEEN DEBUT

Definitely the most anticipated show of Paris Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2024, Seán McGirr made his debut as Alexander McQueen‘s new creative director. Embracing a gothic-inspired aesthetic, McGirr presented a collection brimming with glossy black ensembles, sharp silhouettes, and a brooding undertone reminiscent of McQueen’s theatrical brilliance. Animal prints adorned shredded hoodies and fluffy trousers, showcasing McGirr’s playful yet avant-garde vision for the brand. He introduced a refreshing playfulness to the collection, marking a new era for Alexander McQueen. While McGirr’s debut may have strayed from McQueen’s traditional identity, it signals an exciting evolution for the iconic fashion house, leaving audiences eager to witness his future contributions and interpretation of the brand’s legacy.

BALENCIAGA, AS WE KNEW IT, IS BACK

Balenciaga made a striking return to Paris Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2024 with a collection that transcended the boundaries of reality. Against a backdrop of influencer-esque video reels and animated sunsets, the runway transformed into a dystopian meta-virtual reality. The collection showcased a progression from classic bustier gowns to oversized faux fur coats with exaggerated fur collars. Signature layering took on a non-traditional twist, with denim pants worn as tops and backpacks transformed into shirts. Y2K nostalgia permeated the collection, with tank tops layered over long-sleeved shirts and a playful nod to the virtual age with a Planet Earth logo t-shirt and eBay fitted turtleneck dress. Models sported black Balenciaga insignia beanies over their eyes and exaggerated mask sunglasses, resembling futuristic virtual reality headsets.

VALENTINO WENT ALL-BLACK

After his groundbreaking ‘Valentino Pink PP’ collection for the Fall/Winter 2022 collection, which was almost entirely bathed in pink, Pierpaolo Piccioli is back to exploring a single hue – black. For Fall/Winter 2024, Piccioli presented the Valentino ‘Le Noir’ collection, exploring the spectrum of black. Without a single drop of color–even models’ lips were painted in black–Piccioli sharpened silhouettes with 1980s-inspired lines.

Drawing inspiration from the art world, particularly from the work of Mark Rothko and Pierre Soulages, he reimagined Valentino’s iconic motifs through a lens of chiaroscuros. The collection was a study in contrasts, where fragility met strength as sculptural velvets and delicate chiffons collided. Breathtaking creations adorned with feathers, fringes, delicate lace, and beautifully embellished see-through fabrics were all featured within the Valentino ‘Le Noir’ collection.

CHANEL BROUGHT THE COASTAL WINTER TO PARIS

Chanel‘s Fall/Winter 2024 collection crafted by Virginie Viard, paid homage to the brand’s roots in the picturesque setting of Deauville. Recreating the iconic boardwalk, the runway became a stage where long, romantic silhouettes inspired by the 1920s and 70s were paraded for the Paris Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2024 attendees. From broad-shouldered peacoats to dressing-gown-style belted coats, each piece exuded the subtle elegance of winter by the sea. Chunky sailor sweaters and knits adorned with Deauville landscapes complemented silk blouses and low-cut tops, echoing the gentle waves and soft winds of the coast. The vibrant palette, inspired by the Deauville sky, featured shades of pink, mauve, orange, and pale blue were placed alongside prints that paid tribute to the town’s connection with cinema. Iconic bags, wide-brimmed hats, and knee-high boots complete the collection.

NICOLAS GHESQUIÈRE MARKED HIS 10-YEAR ANNIVERSARY AT LOUIS VUITTON

Louis Vuitton closes Paris Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2024 on a high note with a milestone collection celebrating a decade of Nicolas Ghesquière at its helm. To commemorate this occasion, Ghesquière played on nostalgia and unveiled a collection brimming with his signature style codes. Ghesquière wove together a narrative that celebrated the multifaceted nature of femininity. Each ensemble exuded a sense of refined grace, accentuated by bold silhouettes and an eclectic array of accessories, showcasing Ghesquière’s keen eye for detail and his unwavering commitment to pushing the boundaries of fashion.
