The Duchess of Sussex made a surprise appearance at the 2018 Fashion Awards last night

And she looked *so* good
Meghan Markle surprised everyone last night by making a surprise appearance at the 2018 Fashion Awards and it was for a very heartwarming reason...

Since joining the royal family, Meghan Markle has proven that her sartorial game is nothing to be sneezed at. The newest member of the firm, Meghan has consistently served up save-to-folder worthy ensembles, demonstrating her keen eye and love for fashion. One brand she’s favoured since her wedding day is Givenchy. The Duchess has sported designs from the house on countless occasions (including her wedding), and appears to have formed an incredibly close friendship with designer Clare Waight Keller.

So, naturally, Meghan made a surprise appearance at the 2018 Fashion Awards last night to present the designer with the award for Womenswear Designer of the Year.

Looking radiant in a black one-shoulder Givenchy gown and Tamara Mellon heels (and, wait for it, *dark nail polish* — reportedly a major break in royal protocol but we’re all about that plum life, so….) the Duchess took to the stage sans auto-cue to deliver the award. Addressing the crowd, Meghan said, “It is such an honour to be here celebrating British fashion and British fashion designers in my new home of the U.K.” before adding, “As all of you in this room know, we have a deep connection to what we wear. Sometimes, it’s very personal and sometimes it’s emotional. But for me this connection is rooted in, really being able to understand that it’s about supporting and empowering each other, especially as women.”

Accepting the award, Waight Keller gushed, “This woman is so amazing. I got to know Meghan on such a personal level. To have someone like that trust you on such a personal moment in their life… I can’t thank you enough because it was the most beautiful moment.”
