Kim Kardashian West to receive the first ever Influencer Award at the CFDA Awards 2018

A whole new category
This year's CFDA Awards will feature an entirely new awards category...

The biggest night on the fashion calendar took place earlier this week and the 2018 Met Gala certainly did not disappoint with its red carpet and the beauty looks that accompanied the eyecatching ensembles sported by the world’s most stylish names.

And whilst we were sad to see the event come and go for another year, we’ve got another fashion fix right around the corner thanks to next month’s CFDA Fashion Awards. The likes of Naomi Campbell, Carolina Herrera, the Hadid sisters, Karlie Kloss and more of fashion’s elite will gather in Brooklyn, NYC, to celebrate this year’s event at which a new award will be given out.

For the first time ever, the evening will include the Influencer Award and the first recipient is none other than Kim Kardashian West. Steven Kolb, the CFDA President and CEO, told WWD that the award was the brainchild of designer Tommy Hilfiger, saying, “Tommy said, ‘If you think about influencers and how they’ve changed our industry, I think we should acknowledge that. [The board] all agreed that Kim was someone who has really impacted the industry and has changed the way brands are presented. She’s a friend of a lot of the designers and has had great influence on fashion globally.”

Kolb also explained that honouring Kardashian came with the added bonus of ensured extra coverage of the event. “By connecting to someone who has that great of an influence it also brings more attention to what we’re doing. There’s great value in acknowledging her, but also for the event itself and the exposure it brings.”

The 2018 CFDA Fashion Awards will take place on June 4 and will be hosted by Issa Rae.
