The 2024 LVMH Prize marked its 11th edition with a spotlight on exceptional creativity and craftsmanship.

The LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers has established itself as one of the most prestigious awards in the fashion world, recognizing and supporting the next generation of visionary designers. Since its inception, the prize has celebrated creativity, craftsmanship, and innovation, providing emerging talents with the financial backing and mentorship needed to propel their brands onto the global stage. For its 11th edition in 2024, the competition saw an exciting new chapter unfold, with the introduction of a third prize focused on technical expertise and sustainability—the Savoir-Faire Prize.

This year’s final, held on September 10 at the Fondation Louis Vuitton, was a star-studded affair. The jury, featuring some of the most influential names in fashion, included Jonathan AndersonMaria Grazia ChiuriNicolas GhesquièreMarc JacobsNigoPhoebe PhiloSilvia Venturini Fendi, and Pharrell Williams. They were joined by LVMH heavyweights Delphine ArnaultJean-Paul Claverie, and Sidney Toledano. Special guest Natalie Portman, the celebrated actress and producer, also lent her expertise to the jury.

Out of more than 2,500 applicants, eight finalists were selected to showcase their collections in front of the jury. The standout among them was Ellen Hodakova Larsson, a 32-year-old Swedish designer and founder of the womenswear brand Hodakova, who took home the coveted LVMH Prize. Known for her innovative use of upcycled materials and utilitarian aesthetic, Larsson has redefined how discarded garments can be transformed into modern luxury. Her victory not only earned her a €400,000 endowment but also a year of mentorship from LVMH’s expert team. Natalie Portman, dressed in Dior, presented Larsson with the award, solidifying the designer’s place as a rising star in the industry.

The Karl Lagerfeld Prize, awarded to a designer who demonstrates creative excellence across multiple categories, was claimed by Duran Lantink. The 36-year-old Dutch designer has built a reputation for his bold, offbeat approach to fashion, often blending menswear, womenswear, and genderless styles. Lantink’s signature technique involves repurposing deadstock fabrics into daring new silhouettes, creating garments that challenge traditional fashion norms. His prize includes a €200,000 grant and a year of mentorship, providing him with the support to elevate his brand further.Actor Robert Pattinson, dressed in Dior Homme, revealed Lantink as the winner, noting the designer’s unique ability to merge sustainability with edgy, transformative design.

This year also introduced the inaugural Savoir-Faire Prize, designed to honor designers who excel in craftsmanship, innovation, and sustainability. The prize went to Michael Stewart, the 35-year-old Irish designer behind the womenswear label Standing Ground. Stewart’s brand, known for its elegant eveningwear, combines meticulous craftsmanship with a strong commitment to sustainability, sourcing deadstock materials to create luxurious gowns and outerwear. Along with the €200,000 endowment and year-long mentorship, Stewart will collaborate with LVMH’s Métiers d’Excellence, receiving €50,000 worth of embellishments from Maison Vermont, a revered embroidery specialist for his upcoming collection. The prize was presented by actress Ana de Armas, dressed in Louis Vuitton

Beyond these top honors, the LVMH Prize continues to support young designers in meaningful ways. This year, three fashion graduates were also recognized: Marine Gilles from HEAD (Geneva), Lovro Lukić from Central Saint Martins (London), and Mickaël Nana from ENSAD (Paris). Each graduate was awarded €10,000 and offered a year-long placement at LVMH houses—Louis Vuitton, Loewe, and Dior Homme, respectively—giving them invaluable real-world experience within the luxury sector.

For the 2024 winners, this moment marks not just a milestone, but the beginning of transformative creative journeys. With financial backing, mentorship, and increased industry visibility, the winners are poised to lead the charge in the next wave of fashion innovation. As they celebrate their victories, they’re already looking ahead to what’s next—new collections, runway shows, and opportunities to reshape the industry with their distinct visions.
