The recent buzz around Jacquemus has the fashion world abuzz. It all began last week with the release of a whimsical campaign celebrating the opening of the new Jacquemus store in Capri. The series of campaign videos set the stage for Jacquemus’ upcoming 15th-anniversary show in Capri, with the fashion universe applauding the brand’s marketing genius. While the surreal campaign was a planned marketing ploy, yesterday, Jacquemus unintentionally sent the entire fashion crowd into a frenzy. The reason? A silly little typo.
As the fashion pack waits in anticipation for the Jacquemus show, the designer took to Instagram, giving us a little glimpse of what’s to be unveiled. The Instagram carousel featured Blackpink‘s Jennie, a dreamy powder blue dress hanging in front of a window, the picturesque Casa Malaparte, and more. It was, however, the now-deleted last slide that left the fashion industry clutching its pearls. The image, now deleted, seemed to hint at the designer’s “last collection,” prompting frenzied speculation among fashion enthusiasts.
“Tomorrow, I will present my last collection. The show is going to be a pure essence of Jacquemus,” read the text.
The fashion world naturally let out a collective gasp with speculations running wild. The designer also posted a photograph of Casa Malaparte (the upcoming show’s venue), clicked by Karl Lagerfeld, to his personal page. He captioned the image, “This photograph of Karl Lagerfeld opened the door to this house for me. Last year at the Met Gala in honor of Karl Lagerfeld, the print of this picture embroidered on my jacket caught the attention of the owner of the house. They were touched and decided to invite me to stay at the house. This is how I start the conversation. So special.”
Coming hot on the heels of Virginie Viard‘s exit announcement, these two posts from Jacquemus had the fashion world speculating about his potential appointment as Chanel‘s creative director. Well, can you imagine? For better or worse, thepost turned out to be nothing more than a typo or incorrect translation, as many social media users pointed out. It turns out the internet-breaking post was, in fact, an honest translating error, considering the words for “last” and “latest” happen to be the same in French.
