According to The World Health Organization, 1 in 3 women experience gender-based violence in their lifetime. Containing and responding to assaults against women and girls remains a worldwide public health, gender equality, and human rights priority. To that end, November 25 is celebrated as the International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women.
This year, Gucci is championing the cause with a significant contribution. The Italian Maison will donate a portion of proceeds from the sale of its ‘Rosso Ancora Signoria’ slingback pumps from November 25 to the end of the year to Casa delle Donne, a women’s rights institution in Florence.
The covetable pair of red heels was initially introduced as a part of Sabata De Sarno‘s debut runway collection. Choosing this particular pair as the emblem for Gucci’s battle against gender violence is a deliberate move, acknowledging the emergence of red shoes as a symbol of the fight against femicide and violence against women in Italy.
A portion of the proceeds will also be donated to Nosotras APS, a non-governmental organization in Florence that is supporting the development of Casa delle Donne. Imagined as a collaborative space, Casa delle Donne will operate a hub for diverse right-focused organizations to come together and work on meaningful initiatives to help, empower, and protect women.
Gucci’s strategic alignment with these two initiatives underscores its commitment to social responsibility, highlighting the fashion industry’s potential to drive change. As the Gucci ‘Rosso Ancora Signoria’ slingback pumps emerge as an emblem of solidarity in the fight against violence directed at women, Gucci’s support resonates far beyond the runway, making a tangible impact in the lives of those affected.
