Raf Simons makes his menswear debut at Prada with Fall/Winter ’21 collection

Here's everything you need to know about the Prada Fall/Winter '21 menswear show...

It was a show that was highly anticipated — one that we looked forward to — to see if Raf Simons‘ personal style would permeate his first menswear collection as co-creative director of Prada. Alongside the influential Miuccia Prada, together the dynamic duo presented a Fall/Winter ’21 collection that was intended to entice your sensations rather than sticking to one single story. And they achieved that by selecting one key garment that could be appreciated in several ways: the long john.

The show made a clear case for the intimate piece of clothing as it was aimed to stir sensations and entice the feeling of freedom and the human body. Comfortable, playful, childlike and rather daring, the panoply of long johns came in different textures and textiles — think geometric-patterned jacquard knits, leather, re-nylon, bouclé tweeds and classic pinstripe wool suiting — for you to dress up or certainly dress down.

Whilst some of the long johns (or designer jumpsuits) were showcased on its own, many were proposed as full outfits acting like second skin under new tailored and outerwear pieces. We spotted some constructed single and double-breasted coats, bomber jackets executed in leather and bouclé and oversized knits crafted with geometric jacquards.

There was a comfortable aspect to the collection too, one that perhaps we needed to see as it reflected a post-lockdown mentality, but it came with a lot more colour than expected for the autumnal season. Pops of canary yellow, pink, blue and a lot of purple was scattered throughout the season’s traditional colour palette, and the brilliantly hued backdrop of faux fur continued to excite the senses.
