Pierpaolo Piccioli has radically changed the aesthetic of the brand by blending both traditional sartorial cuts and a state of punk-meets-streetwear since taking the reigns solo at Valentino (after Maria Grazia Chiuri’s made her exit from the label).
Last night at Men’s Paris Fashion Week, the Creative Director took on a new direction for the brand’s Fall/Winter ’18 menswear collection. Presenting outerwear and formalwear with unexpected twists, the runway unfolded a collection that brings “freedom for men to be exactly who you are”.
According to WWD, after the show, Piccioli said: “I think this is a moment when men are thinking about themselves. After centuries of rules, men may be in these [last] three decades are trying to express themselves”.
Dominated by a dark colour palette — think black, blue and grey — the collection came complete in forms of sweaters, track pants, jackets, tees with the VLTN logo, the season’s new Valentino Garavani messenger bag and other coveted accessories.
