Marking the second time the pair have come together, Balmain’s Olivier Rousteing brings the brand’s stunning couture heritage to a selection of 25 pieces that were made for the summer.
Boasting bold silhouettes, playful prints (including a yellow version of the house’s familiar oversized houndstooth pattern) and fine tailoring, the capsule collection packs the ultimate wardrobe for your next weekend getaway.
“I made sure that this collection would offer them the type of choices that they would want to be packing into their weekend bags,” explains Rousteing.
With styles for both men and women, the collection features swimsuits, wrap skirts, dresses, long cardigans, tailored double-breasted jackets, long-sleeved tees, shirts, baseball jackets and espadrilles – all adorned in complimentary gold and yellow tones.
Here, we exclusively speak to the Creative Director about Balmain’s latest capsule collection with Mytheresa…
What is the idea behind the exclusive capsule collection that you created for Mytheresa?
As I worked on this, I kept thinking of past summer celebrations and get-aways that I will always treasure. I grew up in the southwest of France, in the city of Bordeaux, where summers are very long, very warm and always very, very sunny — which means everyone escapes, whenever possible, to the nearby Atlantic coast and islands.
I have such great memories of times spent at those incredible spots — the water is perfect, the beaches, bordered by forests and enormous sand dunes, seem to go on forever and the small towns are beautiful. It’s pretty amazing how many great summer destinations there are to choose from down there.
So, while my team and I worked on this capsule, I thought about the Balmain Army heading to that area’s hip surfing spots like Hossegor, old-school luxury resorts like Biarritz and chic coastal get-aways like Cap Ferret — and I made sure that this collection would offer them the type of choices that they would want to be packing into their weekend bags.
This capsule has both womenswear and menswear styles, can you tell us more about the Balmain state of mind?
It’s easy to see that this is a Balmain offering.
You can quickly spot familiar codes of the house, which have been all given a light and a sensual twist for the warmer summer days and nights that lie ahead.
There is my favourite pied de poule pattern (houndstooth), our signature buttons and an eye-catching reliance on golden tomes.
My team and I have often noted the transformative power of our designs – once you slip on a Balmain garment, our atelier’s incredible tailoring, the house’s long history of unparalleled craftsmanship and our distinctive, modern design and silhouette all see to come together to create a certain ‘’tout est possible’’ confidence boost, which is recognizably Balmain as the house icons themselves.

The collection is all about a pool party, what do you enjoy the most about summer?
Il Dolce Far Niente… summer’s all about recharging the batteries and focusing on the important things in life.
For me, the best thing about a summer vacation is the chance to finally unwind and catch up with friends and family.
I treasure the warm summer evenings we share, when we can all laugh, tell stories and talk for hours — beginning, over drinks while preparing dinner together — and then, after a great dinner under the stars, continuing the discussions and laughter late, late late into the night — since nobody ever wants to end the moment and say good night.
If you were to organize the perfect pool party, who would you invite?
All year long, my team works on organizing fantastic parties and celebrations for the house’s openings, launches and runways — and I love the incredible mix that they pull together for those evenings. But summer is always different. It’s the time when I just want be with those people who are most important for me — my good friends and family. And, I can’t imagine a better group to have at my pool party!
