Carolina Herrera transported fashion’s spotlight to Madrid for Spring/Summer 2026, staging its first main runway outside New York at the historic Plaza Mayor.
In a show blending heritage and modernity, Creative Director Wes Gordon drew inspiration from Madrid’s 17th-century Golden Age and the rebellious energy of La Movida, the city’s 1980s cultural renaissance that coincided with the House’s founding.
“Madrid has always been one of my favorite cities: Its rhythm, appetite for life, and joy are deeply aligned with the Herrera woman,” said Gordon.
The collection unfolded as a floral ode to the city. Carnations, the national flower, appeared in jacquards and delicate threadwork. Violettas, a tribute to Madrid’s beloved candies, shimmered in airy, three-dimensional embroideries. Retiro Roses, emblematic of the city’s historic Rosaleda gardens, spoke to a heritage that blossoms in public life.
Accessories embraced streamlined elegance with three new handbag designs, the Mimi, the Pía, and the Lola, conceived as integral parts of the silhouette rather than afterthoughts.
Collaborations with Spanish creatives enriched the presentation: Sybilla’s avant-garde flair, PALOMO’s reimagining of the white shirt, porcelain florals by ANDRESGALLARDO, glass artistry from Levens, and archival capes from Seseña. What an amazing collection!
