STELLA MCCARTNEY
The OG of sustainability in the fashion industry, Stella McCartney has long been a veteran for ethical approaches.
In 2017, the designer teamed up with Adidas to create the Parley Ultra Boost X trainers made from plastic recovered from the sea.
Following the release, the British designer used ocean plastic instead of woven or recycled polyester in her namesake label’s products and continued a long-term partnership with Parley for the Oceans.
PATAGONIA
The eco-friendly brand Patagonia has always delivered premium clothing and its surfwear especially is created with a focus on preserving the ocean by using recycled materials, including recycled bottles and fishing nets.
The American brand also provides grants to a slew of environmental organisations that fight to protect and clean our oceans, such as All One Ocean and Ocean Blue Project.
REFORMATION
Highly known for its inclusivity, Reformation launched a swimwear line made with ECONYL® – a regenerated nylon fibre developed by global textile manufacturer, Aquafil.
The fabric is made out of things like fishing nets, fabric scraps, carpet flooring, and other plastic from landfills and oceans all over the world. That waste is sorted, cleaned, and recycled back to nylon fibre through a regeneration and purification process. It has the potential to be recycled infinitely, which helps create a more circular fashion system.
ADIDAS
Another partnership worth following is Adidas a Parley for the Oceans. Together, the pair have been working together to ethically produce a range of footwear. The success of their relationship has resulted in producing more than sneakers and now into workout gear, athleisure and more.
The collections are made with at least 75% plastic waste, with masses of waste coming from our oceans.
PAPER LONDON
Worn by the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Taylor Swift, Solange Knowles, Margot Robbie and Kate Hudson, Paper London is a brand that sits at the top of our wishlists.
The brand’s bold, bright and colourful collections are not only made using a sustainable material fabricated from recycled fishing nets but also protects the wearers against the sun’s rays, offering the equivalent UV protection of SPF50 sun cream using technical fabrics.
EVERLANE
Two years ago, Everlane launched a new collection titled ReNew. Furthering its commitment to sustainability, the collection was made entirely out of recycled plastics.
Since then, ReNew has grown from an initial launch of just outerwear to now, jumpers, accessories and bags. And it doesn’t stop just there.
The brand’s ultimate goal is to ensure that by 2021, all of its products will include non-virgin plastics.
