20 years ago, Nicolas Ghesquière held the reins at Balenciaga and launched a handbag that would soon hold icon status. The “Classic” now sits amongst some of the most cult handbags such as Fendi’s Peekaboo and Dior’s Saddle Bag, and since then it has cemented itself as the Balenciaga bag to front.
Demna Gvasalia is currently at the helm of the maison and 20 years since the launch of the Classic, the Creative Director has reinterpreted the iconic accessory and added his contemporary take to the icon. Enter Neo Classic.
First introduced on the Fall/Winter ’20 runway, the new reinterpretation features new proportions (it still holds the signature trapezoid shape), longer handles, new materials including crocodile-embossed and spazzolato calf, as well as new colourways — each include complementary hues of galvanized metal hardware and painted edges.
The bag line also comes complete with a complimented range of small leather goods including card holders and pouches with shoulder straps.
The Balenciaga Neo Classic handbag will be released in selected Balenciaga stores as of July 20.
