Meryl Streep is joining the Big Little Lies cast for season two

This is not a drill.
Just when we thought Big Little Lies couldn't get any better, this happens...

Big Little Lies was one of 2017’s breakout hits, garnering a series of award nominations and plenty of wins for its cast, in particular Nicole Kidman and Alexander Skarsgard for their haunting portrayal of a dangerous marriage. Shortly after the first season (based on the book of the same name by Australian author Liane Moriarity) finished, it was announced that a second, seven-episode season had been given the go-ahead. Overnight, a new cast member was announced and the world has no chill.

The legendary Meryl Streep will join Reese Witherspoon, Laura Dern, Zoe Kravitz, Shailene Woodley and Kidman in the next season. According to Deadline, Streep (who was nominated for an Academy Award earlier in the week) will play Mary Louise Wright, the mother of Skarsgard’s character Perry who comes to Monterey searching for answers. The role will mark Streep’s return to television screens, 15 years after her last part in a TV series.

Filming will begin in spring of this year, with an official release date yet to be announced. Somehow we think that the 2019 awards ceremonies will follow a pattern for the show…
