Whilst the 77th annual Globe Globes may have come to an end, we’re shifting our sights to what’s coming up next on the awards season’s calendar. And it’s none other than the BAFTA Awards, set to take place at the Royal Albert Hall in London on February 2, 2020.
The British Academy unveiled the nominees for its upcoming film awards this afternoon and leading this year’s pack with 11 nominations, including best director, best picture and a best actor nod for Joaquin Phoenix, is Joker. No surprises there.
Coming up close on 10 nominations were Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman, followed by Sam Mendes’ 1917 just behind with nine. Also, it looks like Margot Robbie will compete against herself in the ‘Best Supporting Actress’ category, nominated for both Bombshell and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, whilst Scarlett Johansson is up for a nod as ‘Leading Actress’ for her role in Marriage Story and ‘Best Supporting Actress’ in Jojo Rabbit.
