It looks like Lebanon’s premiere art fair is set to showcase another selection of must-see masterpieces by regional talents soon. In September, we already have an idea on what to expect from renowned photographer, Fadia Ahmad.
The Spanish-born talent will have her very own exhibition (curated by art critic and editor, Pascale Le Thorel) in which, over 90 captivating photographs will highlight Ahmad’s explorations in the city of Beirut.
The Lebanon capital is home to culture, heritage and beautiful architecture, and through the lens of Ahmad, the exhibition allows viewers to discover the complexity and humanity of the city and its people.
The photographs are almost conceived as paintings as they transmit quintessential details of city life — think merchants on street corners, grocers, fishermen, bathers, street artists, collapsed buildings and even, the modern construction of the city.
Set to take place at Beit Beirut, the Beyrouth | Beirut exhibition is composed of seven different parts: Urban geography, architectural contrasts of past and present, the communities, street life, the fishermen, the Corniche (the seaside promenade) and the train station.
A far cry from being a documentary on the city, the images almost showcase a hunt for light and beauty, as a strong essence of emotion and poetry dominate the imagery.
