This week, #BuroSpotlights Lebanese collage artist Yasmina Hilal.
Yasmina Hilal is a mixed-media photographer and experimental filmmaker. What makes her work stand out, however, is her creative knack for collaging different mediums to create aesthetically pleasing visuals. Hilal’s journey into art began with a simple yet profound inspiration – her mother’s dedication to her craft. Influenced by her mother’s passion for photography and collage, as well as her grandmother’s love for fashion at a young age, sparked a flame within Hilal, propelling her into a lifelong exploration of art. Since then, her creative path has been defined by an insatiable thirst for experimentation and discovery.Â
One of the hallmarks of Hilal’s work is her seamless integration of diverse mediums, a process she describes as guided by intuition and a willingness to embrace the unexpected. For her, every element carries its own inherent emotion and message, each contributing to the different narratives woven into her art. Each medium and material adds to the depth of her work, making it unique.Â
On a quest to push the limits of conventional artistry, the Lebanese artist seeks inspiration in her homeland, its rich culture, and the resilient community of residents.  In the face of adversity, whether it be creative blocks or external challenges, she draws strength from her roots, embracing the inherent beauty of struggle and using it as a catalyst for artistic growth.Â
