“Clean girl is out; mob wife is in,” said a viral Tiktok sound that took over our social feeds in last month. But what does the rise of the “mob wife” aesthetic mean for the beauty world? Well, slick buns and clean hairdos are being replaced by retro hairstyles like bouffants, side twists, and voluminous hairstyles that scream for attention.
Earlier this month, Miley Cyrus broke the internet with her first-ever Grammy, four stunning outfits, and a special performance during the music awards night. However, it was her soaring, leonine mane that caught our attention.
While Miley brought the retro hairstyle to the red carpet, designers Marc Jacobs and Christian Cowan, among others, took the dramatic hairdo onto the Fall/Winter 2024 runways. Models at the recent Marc Jacobs show–who were dressed to resemble dolls–sported inflated hairstyles resembling candy floss clouds, while those on the Christian Cowan and The Blonds runway flaunted carefully teased updos. Messy updos were the norm at Yuhan Wang show.
Besides the runways and the red carpets, “It” girlies like Matilda Djerf have been flaunting the voluminous bouffant hairstyle IRL.
Considering the current rise in popularity of the bouffant hairstyle, it is safe to say that the retro-inspired look is one of the major beauty trends of the season. Don’t believe us? Scroll down for some pictorial evidence.
