IN CONVERSATION WITH ROSSANO FERRETTI, THE MAN WHO CUT THE RULES AND REINVENTED HAIRSTYLING.

Meet the legendary hairstylist.
We spoke to Rossano Ferretti on his game-changing technique, the philosophy behind effortless beauty, and why healthy hair starts with the right approach.

Rossano Ferretti doesn’t do basic trims. He sculpts. He shapes. He transforms. And if you’ve ever caught yourself admiring impossibly effortless, flowing hair on a magazine cover, chances are, it has his magic touch all over it. The man himself? Equal parts artist, innovator, and unapologetic rule-breaker. His signature haircutting technique—famously known as ‘The Method’ Cut—rewrote the industry’s rulebook. Gone were the rigid, overly structured layers. Instead, he introduced a revolutionary way of cutting hair that follows its natural movement, making it look effortlessly perfect, every single day. Today, Ferretti isn’t just about haircuts. He’s on a mission to elevate haircare itself, bringing the same philosophy of luxury, sustainability, and meticulous craftsmanship to his product line.

But enough from us. Let’s hear it from the man himself. We sat down with the legendary hairstylist to discuss game-changing cuts, the biggest hair mistakes, and why your routine needs a serious upgrade.

YOU WERE BORN INTO THE WORLD OF HAIRDRESSING. DID YOU ALWAYS KNOW THAT YOU WANTED TO BECOME A HAIRSTYLIST? CAN YOU TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR JOURNEY?

I come from a family of hairdressers. I grew up in a hair salon. I was always surrounded by beauty as a child, watching my mom when I was five or six doing her thing with hair. At some point, I wanted to be an architect, to be honest, especially at 14, because I understood proportion and harmony well. Eventually, it became evident that hairstyling was in my blood, and from there, I went to London to study and understand the world and the fashion industry for a decade. That was the incubation period for my essence, which is now the method behind the world-renowned haircut. I opened my first salon in Parma, and that salon became a legend in the industry. It completely changed the rules of a traditional salon by making it more intimate and luxurious. From there, I became a global ambassador for the most prominent beauty brands.

YOUR SIGNATURE HAIRCUTTING TECHNIQUE IS WIDELY PRAISED IN THE INDUSTRY. CAN YOU TELL US MORE ABOUT HOW IT CAME TO BE AND WHAT MAKES IT STAND OUT FROM OTHER CUTTING METHODS?

The biggest thing in my life was creating a haircut that became globally popular. There are only two haircuts in the world that became internationally popular: Vidal Sassoon in the 60s and myself in the 2000s. I was initially cutting hair in a dramatic way, but I wasn’t happy because I didn’t want to see the layers; I didn’t want to see the cut of the scissors. I wanted to see the beauty of the hair. I wanted to transform hair into something that could give my clients the freedom to wear it however they wanted every day. If you cut hair wet and straight, it reacts differently once it dries. After 10 years of fighting with the scissors, I realized it wasn’t about scissors or technique but about the body. I started moving my body around the hair, following its natural force. When you do that, it doesn’t matter whether the hair is straight, wavy, or curly because you follow them, and by doing so, the hair goes where it wants to in a natural, beautiful way.

CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR PRODUCT RANGE THE NEW LAUNCHES??

The products are the essence of thinking. I wanted to bring my sustainable mindset into these products because I was not happy with the harsh chemicals or fragrances in most hair products. I wanted to create something more sustainable. Hair products absorb into the skin like skincare, so they need to be free of toxins, Which is why I invented the concept “Hair Skinification,” which is about treating hair with the same care and attention as we do with our skin. I wanted to create products that deeply nourish and protect hair using high-quality, sustainable ingredients that deliver immediate results, not just over time. It’s about restoring the natural beauty of hair, giving it freedom and vitality, much like a well-curated skincare routine does for the skin. We have several new products launching, including a mask and shampoo for colored hair. It works super well on blonde hair to take out the excess yellow look.

WHAT, ACCORDING TO YOU, DOES HEALTHY HAIR MEAN? WHAT DOES AN IDEAL HAIRCARE ROUTINE LOOK LIKE?

Healthy hair is a philosophy, like taking care of your food or going to the gym. People forget that hair is like skin and should be treated with care. You need to nourish your hair with the right products for your hair type and be conscious of the ingredients in the products. You need to build a haircare regime and also protect your hair from the weather. The ideal haircare routine should include a great shampoo and conditioner for your hair type, a serum that helps you style your hair the way you want, and an oil to nourish your hair.

WHAT, ACCORDING TO YOU, IS THE BIGGEST HAIRCARE CRIME?

In my opinion, the biggest hair care crime is wanting to change your hair. Leave your hair the natural way, whether it is straight, curly, or waxy, and nourish it to look the best in a natural way.

TWO MUST-HAVE ROSSANO FERRETTI PRODUCTS THAT NEED TO BE ON EVERYONE’S BEAUTY SHELF?

Most of my products are designed for specific hair types, but if I had to pick two products that deserve a spot in everyone’s haircare routine, I would say the ‘Prodigio’ Regenerating Oil, which is kind of like a hair supplement and the Dry Shampoo.

WHAT IS THE MOST REWARDING ASPECT OF YOUR CAREER SO FAR?

To me, the most rewarding aspect is to see my teams growing around the world and seeing them happy. And, of course, seeing my salons around the world become very successful.
