Five simple hair hacks we learnt from Jen Atkin

Mane game strong
It's time to ditch those complicated tools and formulas and try out these simple hair tricks, courtesy of one of the industry's most respected hairstylists...

Almost all of the female celebrities we follow on Instagram have one thing in common, and that’s Jen Atkin. With a portfolio of celebrity clients that include Chrissy Teigen, Jennifer Lopez, Zendaya, Jenna Dewan, the Hadid sisters, the Kardashian-Jenner clan and Hailey Baldwin (who just got engaged to Justin Beiber), the celebrity hairstylist and Ouai Founder has made a name for herself in the industry. Her speciality? Undone, I-woke-up-like-this hair that can be achieved in just a few simple steps.

Here are five of our favourites…

1. French girl hair

With the summer heat officially upon us, our hair’s a little all over the place from the salt and sun. The best way to deal with it? Juts go with it. According to Jen, Ouai’s Dry Texture Foam is your go-to product and all you need to do is apply the formula from mid-section to your tips for a French girl finish.

2. Beach waves

It’s summer so naturally we’re embracing beach waves at any opportunity. You might think that the effortless look is tricky to replicate but as it turns out, Jen’s got an easy three-step system to get you Ariel hair in no time…

3. Top knot

You can never go wrong with a bun. Other than Meghan Markle’s messy bun, our favourite style is Jennifer Lopez’s go-to tight top knot. Getting it extra slick can be quite hard to do yourself however, Jen has shared the ultimate tricks for perfecting the bun. Oh and also, we’ve been using bobby pins incorrectly this whole time it turns out.

4. Heavy metal braids

We’ve seen this hairstyle dominate our feeds during festival season, and earlier this year, Romee Strijd was spotted at Coachella fronting heavy metal braids. Here, Jen shows us a step by step process on how she recreated a festival side braid.

5. Sleek ponytail

Even though short bobs are one of the trending hairstyles of the season, there’s never a wrong time to whip out that long mane and style it into a sleek ponytail, Kim Kardashian-style. According to Jen, all you need is a little hair and a clear elastic. Et voila!
