This week, #BuroSpotlights Kuwaiti artist Hamad Al-Humaidhan.
It was in 2010 that the BBC branded Al-Humaidhan “Young Picasso” when he was only 11 years old. It was a title bestowed upon him in recognition of his exceptional talent and uncanny ability to channel the spirit of the legendary Spanish artist. But Hamad’s artistic journey began long before the accolades and acclaim.
Raised in a family of four children, his parents, especially his father, played a pivotal role in nurturing his artistic inclination. At the age of just nine, he unveiled his inaugural masterpiece: a portrait of the iconic footballer Cristiano Ronaldo. What’s more astonishing is that this creation fetched a staggering £650 at auction in Bath, setting the stage for Hamad’s success in the art world. Further, the young artist’s first two collections sold out within hours of release, catapulting him into the limelight. That was, however, just the beginning of what would evolve into an illustrious artistic career.
With each stroke of his brush, Hamad fascinated audiences with his unique take on cubist expressionism. Today, almost 15 years later, Al-Humaidhan continues to charm the world with his vibrant cubist creations. He is now pursuing his career in Kuwait, where he was crowned the Middle East brand ambassador for New Balance. That’s not all; Al-Humaidhan has partnered with major brands like Bvlgari, BMW, Sephora, Karl Lagerfeld, and IWC Schaffhausen, among others.
