Remember Shawn Stussy? He’s back and here’s who he’s collaborating with

Out of retirement
Dior’s Kim Jones brings back the streetwear legend for the ultimate collaboration…

We love a good comeback, but what we love even more is a designer returning from retirement. Yes, nothing satisfies the fashion appetite like a veteran coming back into the game, especially after a 20 year hiatus.

Following months of speculation, Dior has finally confirmed that legendary streetwear Stüssy founder, Shawn Stussy, will be collaborating on the new Men’s 2020 autumn collection which will be showcased at Art Basel Miami Beach.”Kim Jones has brought me out of retirement to work with him and his Dior family on fall 2020,” shared Stussy on his Instagram, revealing “how good a vibe” and “how natural” this project has been for him, his first since his big departure from Stüssy back in 1996.

Stussy’s confirmation was echoed in an official post on Dior’s Instagram announcing the highly-anticipated Kim Jones’ autumn 2020 Menswear show that featured a brightly-coloured video set to Georgia’s ‘About Work The Dancefloor (The Black Madonna Remix)’.

For those unfamiliar with the streetwear veteran, Stussy started out as an entrepreneurial surfer who used to screen-print T-shirts and shorts splashed with a graffiti-style Stüssy logo. He left the brand in 1996, and a slew of different creatives grew the brand into one of the most popular subculture lines adored by musicians, skaters, DJs and artists alike.

In terms of what to expect from the new collaboration, it has been reported that Stussy has lent his distinctive scrawl to the collection, creating a a new font for Dior. He’s also taken his iconic art work and given it a couture update, with beaded shirts in psychedelic shades that required a whopping 2,600 hours of embroidery to complete.
