Today’s playlist is curated by none other than Dmitry Panov, the cultural researcher, educator, and creative visionary redefining what music education looks like in the digital age.
As co-founder of the Digital Renaissance Music Institute (DRMI), Dmitry is on a mission: to prove that in a world where AI can churn out melodies, human creativity is still the ultimate instrument.
Born in Moscow and now calling Dubai home, Dmitry, 37, has worn many hats across his interdisciplinary journey — from music journalist and museum curator to university lecturer and founder of the Glinka School of Contemporary Music (which later became the Moscow Music School). Every step has been guided by his deep belief that popular music isn’t just entertainment; it’s culture in motion — a mirror and a motor for change.
Now, with DRMI launching in Dubai in 2025, Dmitry is writing a new chapter: one that invites artists, DJs, producers, and dreamers of every genre to experiment, collaborate, and create the kind of music the world hasn’t heard yet. From jazz to techno, R&B to avant-garde synth, his philosophy is simple: great music has no boundaries.
Why Dubai? For Dmitry, it’s the perfect stage. “Dubai is more than a port city for trade — it’s a port city for ideas,” he says. With its diversity, creativity, and forward-looking energy, he believes the city is set to lead the next cultural wave, spotlighting underrepresented sounds from Arabic soul to South Asian beats, and blending them into global music narratives.
But Dmitry isn’t stopping there. His vision for DRMI is bold: within five years, he aims to expand into bachelor’s and master’s programs, eventually transforming it into a multidisciplinary creative hub spanning music, film, theatre, fashion, and beyond. As he puts it: “We’re not just teaching music. We’re cultivating the cultural leaders of the 21st century — creative, courageous, and deeply connected to the world around them.” And in the meantime? Sit back and enjoy the soundtrack of his vision, today’s playlist, handpicked by Dmitry himself.
