This edition features 371 discs made of 18k gold, meticulously crafted by hand. It took 200 hours of research and prototyping, plus 100 hours of fabrication and machine production, resulting in a bag that weighs 745g. With Arthus Bertrand’s historic touch and Rabanne’s futuristic vision, this piece draws inspiration from the iconic “pluie d’étoiles” medal motif—like wearing a tiny treasure chest on your shoulder!
THE 1969 BAG IN MILKY WHITE CERAMIC – RABANNE X ASTIER DE VILLATTE
Featuring 550 milky white ceramic discs, this Artisan Edition showcases delicately hand-stamped pieces from Astier de Villatte’s Paris atelier. Each disc is a labor of love, requiring 10 full days of craftsmanship, from hand-shaping on plaster molds to a 48-hour drying period, resulting in an elegantly unique handbag.
THE 1969 BAG IN GRADIENT MURANO GLASS – RABANNE X VENINI
The grand finale features Venini, the Murano glassmaking master, who utilized century-old techniques to create the 1969 Artisan Edition in gradient Murano glass. This piece boasts 240 marbled gradient-colored discs crafted from six different colors of glass, with each piece individually handcrafted, from the ‘brushstroke’ marbling to the delicate cutting and piercing.
THE DRESSES
To complete the look, Dossena designed three dresses using the same materials as the bags, including one made entirely of 2,500 ceramic discs, a bold and beautiful fashion statement. This collection showcases Rabanne’s pioneering spirit in material innovation.
