Studio Ghibli fans, rejoice! Loewe is launching the final instalment of its collaboration with Studio Ghibli and it’s just as fantastical as its predecessors. Following its popular My Neighbour Totoro capsule series in 2021 and its Spirited Away series in 2022, the collaboration sees My Howl’s Moving Castle moments and characters from Hayao Miyazaki’s beloved movie on bags, shirts, scarves, wallets, leather keychains, and more.
Creative Director Jonathan Anderson — who called the beloved film “one of my favourite [Hayao] Miyazaki creations” — reimagined some of the most recognizable characters and scenes from the animation across ready-to-wear, handbags and accessories, all whilst staying true to Loewe’s distinct feel.
“The world we are living in needs a counteract: not as an escape, but as a different outlook,” Anderson said in a statement. “This, to me, is what Hayao Miyazaki’s animated films for Studio Ghibli are about: a commentary on the moment and an alternative to it, always heartfelt, fulfilling, full of fantasy and sentiment.”
The film’s key characters — Sophie, Howl, fire demon Calcifer, as well as Markl, Heen, Turnip Head, and the Witch of the Waste — are animated on clothing and accessories drawn as leather or shearling intarsia, turned into embroidery on leather or textile, decorated with crystal and stud inlays on leather.
Giving some of Loewe’s signature pieces an all-over print treatment, the brand’s iconic bags including the Puzzle, Flamenco, Hammock, Amazona, Luna, and Bracelet pouch, are complete with details such as appliqué, raffia or feathers make them stand out as if they were alive. The castle itself even gets a cool tribute.
In the Middle East, the LOEWE x Howl’s Moving Castle collection will be exclusively available at the Dubai Mall pop-up from February 2–14, located on the Fashion Catwalk, ground floor. A pre-sale on loewe.com opens on February 1st, allowing registered clients exclusive online access to the collection ahead of the launch.
