PFW Fall/Winter 2018: Beauty trend report

Here's what caught our eye...
There were so many trends to take in from Paris Fashion Week but there were four beauty trends in particular that caught our eye...

paris Fashion Week is officially over and whilst there was a slew of achingly cool shows that stole the spotlight, there were more than a few beauty looks that caught our attention, too.

Whilst some brands opted for neutral beauty looks with minimal hairstyling and makeup, there were a few high-end Parisian maisons such as Dior, Louis Vuitton, Saint Laurent, Chanel and Miu Miu, that took risks that ultimately paid off.

Here’s four trends that we continuously spotted on the Fall/Winter ’18 runways this season…

Dramatic eyes

Dior’s show was one of the most talked about shows on the calendar and Peter Philips’ beauty look electrified the show even more. The Creative Director of Dior beauty used the soon-to-be-launched Diorshow On Stage Liner to perfectly frame the eyes.

On the last day of Paris Fashion Week, Nicolas Ghesquière delivered a standout show for Louis Vuitton and we were in for a treat when it came to the beauty looks where models flashed graphic swatches of colour across their lids.

At the Altuzarra show, makeup artist Tom Pecheux created a technicolour beauty look that included soft pastel tones, complete with an exaggerated black wing. Saint Laurent’s shimmering collection under the Eiffel Tower was complemented by bold sharp wings on the lids and a touch of silver eyeshadow for the inner corner of the eyes.

Mane attraction

Hair definitely had a moment during Paris Fashion Week. At Miu Miu, Kaia Gerber and Elle Fanning (who made her catwalk debut for the brand) had some serious show-stopping styles that were perfectly poufed whilst Chanel models walked the enchanted forest sporting effortless, messy buns.

Another note-worthy show that focused on beauty was Manish Arora. Everything about each model’s look was amazing, particularly the hairstyles that featured origami-like chignons on top of the models’ heads, created by hairstylist Laurent Philippon.

Hairstylist Eugene Souleiman worked the Thom Browne show and he created the beauty looks by wrapping the models’ hair around their heads, twisting the ends into swirls and then covering the whole look with bronze spray.

Also, over at the Issey Miyake show, hairstylist James Pecis created mohawk-like shapes that added a dramatic flair to the designer’s ready-to-wear collection.

We’ve been seeing the braid trend on celebrities recently and Alexander McQueen‘s models fronted long (and we mean really long) brands that were clean, sharp and sleek.

Bright lips

Finding the perfect shade for your pout can be quite challenging and whilst you can never go wrong with a red hue, it seems bright coloured shades were the favourite for Fall.

On the runway, British make-up artist Pat McGrath did not disappoint at Maison Margiela’s show. She used bright shades of blue, green, orange and metallics to create bold lips whilst Rochas‘ lips were super pigmented with a daring red hue.

Rise and shine

Here at the Buro HQ, we’re big fans of sparkle so when Giambattista Valli sent models down the runway covered in glitter, we cheered from our desks.

Makeup artist Val Garland was responsible for the look (featured on models including Moroccan-born Nora Attal), and created it by loading a plate with glitter and gently blowing it onto the models’ faces which were primed and ready.
