Awards season is officially over and just like any other season, they’ve ended with a bang as the 92nd Academy Awards took place overnight. On the red carpet, the stars dazzled in custom ensembles, hooded gowns and a more toned-down colour palette than usual, bringing with them a plethora of beauty looks we know we’re going to be adding to our Pinterest boards.
From classic red lips and wavy bobs to subtle smokey eyes and nail art, we’ve rounded up some of our favourite beauty looks below…
You can never go wrong with a red pout. Just as we’re entering Spring, stars on the red carpet (including Lily Aldridge, Caitriona Balfe and Janelle Monae) opted for a brighter shade of the classic hue. Here’s a full breakdown of their beauty looks…
Lily Aldridge: Makeup artist Carolina Gonzalez used Armani Beauty and kept her makeup minimal, yet with a striking lip. Her locks were kept in place with a soft wave and centre parting, courtesy of Laura Polko.
Caitriona Balfe: For her first-ever Oscars appearance, Balfe turned to Bren Robertson who used a Clarins’ Joli Rouge shade, Kevun Aucoin Beauty’s Etherealist Foundation, Charlotte Tilbury’s Wonder Glow Highlighter, Clarins’ 3 Dot Liner and Diorshow’s Mascara. Marcus Francis put Balfe’s hair in a low tight bun.
Janelle Monae: Whilst all eyes were on Monae’s stunning hooded-gown by Ralph Lauren, it was her beauty look that had as drawn in. According to makeup artist Jessica Smalls, it’s all about the skin. Using only KohGenDo products, the moisture gel richly plumps and hydrates the skin — hence why we’re in love with Monae’s red carpet glow.
The short bob continued to reign supreme on the runway however, we’re certain we’ll be seeing the trend off the carpet too, throughout the year.
Maya Rudolph: Makeup artist Molly R. Stern kept the actress’ makeup minimal however, added a pop of colour with purple eye shadow. With bright jewellery pieces and a bold sequinned gown, Johnnie Sapong brilliantly kept Rudolph’s short bob sleek straight for the ultimate statement.
Natalie Portman: The actress may have made a statement through her cape (it featured the names of all of the snubbed female directors on it), however we couldn’t help but fall in love with her subtle highlights and textured short bob.
Lucy Boynton: OK, so we’re kind of obsessing over Boynton’s short wavy bob. Dressed in Chanel, it only made sense to channel Parisian chic and hairstylist Jenny Cho executed that perfectly by gluing pearls (inspired by Coco Chanel) on the actress’ hairline.
Not just about hair and makeup, we’re zooming in to some of the most impressive nails spotted on the red carpet.
Billie Eilish: Breaking the mold of this generation, Billie Eilish is synonym for her electric two-toned hair colour and sharp attitude, and what she brought to the red carpet certainly did not disappoint. Dressed in Chanel, the singer (and performer of the night) complimented her look with extra-long (and we mean, EXTRA long) square-shaped acrylics that had rhinestone details.
Cynthia Erivo: The British actress/singer topped our best red carpet look and her beauty nails had a subtle, special meaning. Each hand fronting a different set of nails, they offered us a duet of allusions. Courtesy of NYC-based nail artist Gina Oh, Erivo’s nails were a storytelling of Vincent Van Gogh’s starry nights meets Harriet Tubman’s starry nights.
